Vows
that’ll make your lover swoon
Just so you know, you are not required to make personalised vows to each other! You just need to say the legal vows - the bit in bold in your ceremony draft - and you will be hitched as anything.
If you do decide to write and share vows, you'll find it's a beautiful opportunity to share your appreciation for your partner out loud and to set the tone for the kind of marriage you want to have. I always find the guests absolutely love hearing them too!

SO WHAT ARE THE OPTIONS?
There are so many! For example, you can:
-Each write a set of personal vows
-Write one set of vows together, which are just repeated back to each other
-Speak them line for line (this is pretty gorgeous! See VOWS#1 below)
-Share them with each other for the first time during the ceremony to surprise each other (email to me separately so that I can print them)
-Share them with each other before the day in private
-Lock them away during the ceremony with a bottle of wine to be shared again on your first anniversary.
OK, SO HOW DO I GET STARTED?
If you're needing some help with a structure, to help you get going, here are two easy options! You'll also see HEAPS of examples further down where I've shared examples from other lovers.
STRUCTURE IDEA ONE
First few lines - what the other person has meant to you, how meeting them has made your life better.
Next few lines - the promises you want to make to them, what you’re excited about for your future together.
(VOW#3 further down uses this approach)
STRUCTURE IDEA TWO
Together, write the opening and closing line of your vows (so that they each start and end the same way). Then make a plan that you'll each sandwich three promises in the middle! I think of this structure as "gift wrapping" for your vows.
(For example: both people open by saying "I choose to share my life with you, my love." Then they each share three promises - to surprise each other with on the day - before they each close with "Wherever you are is my home. I can't wait to see what adventures are in store for us!")

VOWS #1 (Shared vows, read together, line for line)
C - You are my best friend.
R - And I will always put you first.
C - Your pain will always be my stress.
R - And your joy will always be my bliss.
C - I will miss you every night we spend a part, and every morning I have to wake up alone.
R - Because of you, I’ll never forget that the world is full of people who are beautiful and kind.
R - There might be times I get distracted, and not hear what you say. C - Or times when you forget to call.
R - But it will never be my intention to make you anything but happy.
C - Let's promise that the next favourite memory, and the next laugh R - And the next time you’ll be so sure you made the right decision today, C - Will never be far away.

VOWS#2
Wherever you are is my home. You make me feel lighter. Like nothing else matters because I have you. Thank you for always loving me, for being patient when I’m grumpy and for guiding me on adventures when I’m scared. I promise to always love you, to welcome you with a smile when you walk through the door, to listen to you and to come up with fun new dates, even when we have walking sticks and just want to stay in playing bingo. I know that marriage means trying when things get difficult and I vow to always communicate openly with you.
You’re my best friend and I feel so lucky and proud to become your wife today.
VOWS #3
In one moment you completely captured my attention and with you it stays. With you, and all the love, kindness and surprise you bring to our relationship. You give me hope, you give me strength and you fill me with passion. In you, I have discovered a small secret to life. One that gives me the confidence to live without knowing where we will go, so long as we arrive together. I will always admire you, respect you, and love you. I will be honest, unselfish and supportive. I promise to give to you, without asking in return. And I will take my greatest joy in creating a happy life for both of us
VOWS #4
I love you. Very simple. Very truly. You are the epitome of everything I have ever looked for in another human being. There isn’t another soul on this planet who has ever made me half the person I am when I’m with you. I am forever changed because of who you are and whatyou’ve meant to me. I wish I could stand up here and promise you the world, but the world isn’t mine to give. What I do promise is my world, and all it entails. I promise to cherish you and respect you. These things I give to you today, and all the days of our life.
VOWS #5
They say that love is a many splendored thing, constantly changing and evolving. Love is a word that’s hard to define. To me, when you feel you have always been married through all time, through all the world, that’s love. Since meeting you, I now understand that Love is give and take. I give all my love to you and receive so much love in return. I promise to love you, honor you, but not obey, because that's a little creepy. As your husband, I am yours, please be mine
VOWS#6
For the rest of my days I will treasure you and the life we have built together. I will encourage and comfort you, laugh with you and cry with you. I will be true to you in good times and in bad, when life seems easy and when it seems hard. When our love is simple, and when it is an effort. I give you my heart now and always.

I choose to share my life with you, my love. I will value you for who you are and will cherish what we have. I will tell you I love you daily, but more important than this, I will show you I love you through the way I respect and care for you. I will proudly call myself your spouse/husband/wife and will be there for you through whatever may come.

You are my lover, my partner in crime and my best friend. You are my every wish and the person who I want to grow old with.
VOWS #9
I will always try to have the patience that love demands. I promise to give and forgive freely, to listen to you and to love you. I will be your safe place, your home, and you will be mine. I will always be grateful for what you have given me with your love.
VOWS #10
When you came into my life, I learned what it was like to be truly content, to want for nothing. I think you’re amazing, and I’m so grateful that I’m the lucky one who gets to be yours forever.
VOWS #11
I promise to grow with you as we learn from each other to be patient, kind, giving, and to always be grateful for each day we have together. I vow to love you as you have loved me, through all happiness and all hardship, and will work to demonstrate that love again and again from this day forward.

I promise you my unconditional love, tenderness, and devotion. I will never ask you to be anything other than what you are. I will value you as an individual as well as cherishing you as my spouse/husband/wife, never taking for granted the luck I had in finding you and that you have chosen to spend your life with me.

I promise to love and care for you. I promise to be honest, kind and patient with you. I promise to try to be on time. Most of all, I promise to always be a true and loyal friend to you.

With my whole heart, I take you as my spouse/husband/wife, acknowledging and accepting your faults and strengths, as you do mine. I promise to be faithful and supportive and to always make our family's love and happiness my priority. I will dream with you, celebrate with you, and walk beside you through whatever may come. You have been my summer fling, best friend, teacher, lover, confidant, and my greatest adventure. You have made me a better person, as our love is reflected in the way I live my life. So I am truly blessed to be a part of your life, which as of today becomes our life together.

Today I affirm my love for you, and vow to share my life with you in every way. I promise to respect and love you. You are the most generous, kind and fun person I have ever known. All that I am I give to you, from this day forward.
